How to Choose 1000W/2000W/3000W Multifunctional Laser Welder for Sheet Metal Factory
Picking the right wattage for your sheet metal shop comes down to one question: how thick is the metal you weld most often?
Here is the simple rule: match power to your typical material thickness. Undershoot and your welds lack penetration. Overshoot and you waste money on power you will never use.

1000W – entry level for thin sheet
A 1000W unit handles stainless and carbon steel up to about 2–3mm, and aluminum up to 2mm. If your shop does light gauge work — kitchen exhausts, HVAC components, electronics enclosures, or decorative metal — this is your machine. It is affordable, runs on standard power, and gets the job done for thin materials. Just know that 3mm is its ceiling. Push past that and you will need multiple passes or see incomplete fusion.
2000W – the sweet spot for most sheet metal shops
This is where the majority of fabrication shops should land. A 2000W Raycus 4 in 1 laser welder cuts through stainless and carbon steel up to 5mm in a single pass, and aluminum up to 4mm. That covers railings, frames, furniture, automotive parts, and most structural sheet metal work. The extra wattage also means faster travel speeds — 60–80 cm/min on 2mm stainless versus 10–15 cm/min with TIG. That speed bump alone pays for the upgrade.
3000W – for heavy plate and production speed
Go 3000W if you regularly weld material over 5mm thick. It handles stainless and carbon steel up to 8–9mm and aluminum up to 6mm. This is industrial territory — heavy equipment, thick-walled pipes, structural beams. It also runs 40% faster than 2000W models on the same material. But keep in mind: 3000W units cost more, draw more power, and may need water cooling instead of air.

What about 4-in-1 functionality?
A multifunctional laser welder does welding, cutting, and cleaning in one unit. That is huge for a sheet metal industrial multifunctional laser equipment buyer because you replace three machines with one. Look for a sheet metal laser welding machine that includes a cleaning mode for rust and paint removal — that alone saves hours of prep work.
Bottom line
1000W: thin sheet under 3mm — get this if budget is tight.
2000W: 3–5mm — best ROI for most shops.
3000W: 5–9mm — buy this if you do heavy plate regularly.
If you are unsure, go with 2000W. It covers 90% of sheet metal jobs and leaves room to grow.
